Arad is a Bahraini village located to the east of Muharraq and west of Hidd. It contains Arad Fort, which archaeological excavations have shown to be a Portuguese fortress, as shown by old Portuguese maps of Bahrain in the National Library in Paris. The Omani Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Ya'arubi built part of it when he expelled the Persians from Bahrain. The origin of the name Arad goes back to a distorted name from Aradus, which was given to the island of Muharraq.
